Monogrammed Bow Holder

A girl can never have too many bows!  Jenna's bows had out grown her single bow holder so it was time to make her a new one with more space.  Here's what I came up with!

I purchased a 12 x 12 canvas and some brown and pink polka-dot fabric.  I simply wrapped the fabric around the canvas and used a staple gun to attach it to the back.  Then I purchased several different shapes, sizes, and colors of buttons.  I played around with the buttons for a while until I formed the perfect J.  After I was happy with the J, I hot glued each button in place.  I decided to dress up the top of the monogram with a pretty pink bow.  Then I used some pink and brown ribbon (that I had left over from another project, I love it when that happens) for the bow holders.  I hot glued the pink ribbon to the brown ribbon, spaced out, in four places.  To finish off, I used my trusty staple gun again to attach the ribbons to the back of the canvas.

It's hanging in her new room; all I have left to do is add all of her bows!  I am so excited to not have to dig through her drawers anymore to search for the perfect bow!

Playing Catch-Up and Ringing in the New Year with a Lamp Re-do!

A picture from our snow we got last week!

Well, it has been a long time since my last post.  I am going to try harder in 2012 to write more on a regular basis.  Today, I am going to play catch-up of what's been going on the last few months and share with you a lamp re-do I just completed for Jenna's room.

November and December were busy months for our family.  We took a trip to Disney World over Thanksgiving and squeezed in a quick visit with our family back in Houston.  For Christmas, we traveled to Palestine first to do the Polar Express train ride with our friends who live in Saudi Arabia.  It was so good to catch up with them and meet their new baby boy!  After a few days in Palestine, we made our way to Houston.  We were very lucky to get to stay there almost two weeks.  It was so much fun visiting with many of our family and friends while we were there!  I have to say, it was hard to come back to Midland after being "home" for several weeks.  Last weekend, Kyle's brother, his wife, and son came for a visit.  We took a last minute trip to Ruidoso, New Mexico.  The kids had fun tubing in the snow.  On our way back we stopped off to see Carlsbad Caverns.

Now it's January and it's time for us to get busy working on our house again.  We have a long list of things I would like to have done before our baby boy arrives in April.  A few weeks before Christmas, we moved Jenna into her big girl bed.  So, this week I have been working on re-arranging and decorating her "new" room.  Her old room was done in pink and green but her new colors are pink and brown.  One item she had in her old room was a green lampshade.

Before Picture

I really didn't want to go buy a new shade so I decided to go to Hobby Lobby and see what I could find to re-do it to match the new color scheme.  I found the perfect brown and pink ruffled ribbon to use (and it was half-off)!  I pulled out my hot glue gun and went for it.  It took about five rolls of ribbon to cover the shade but it was still much cheaper than buying a brand new shade.

After Picture

I love how it turned out!  I have a few more projects I am working on for her new room and can't wait to show you when they are complete!
